Meet the Photographer:

The Artist | Caleb Plumlee

Who I am

If asked to describe myself in short format, I would say I am an obsessive outdoorsman by choice, an aerospace engineer by degree, a business leader by necessity, and a hopeless romantic by nature. The real fuel in my life is my love for nature and a relentless compulsion for adventure. These tendencies have taken me to the most stunning places and provided me with endless memories of beautiful vistas and hidden natural gems. Some years ago, I combined my passion for outdoor adventures and my interest in technical work into an unexpectedly obsessive pursuit of nature photography. My first foray into this endeavor, and still my primary photographic pursuit, was landscapes. This has since grown into general nature, macro, wildlife, and fine art photography, though all are centered around my natural surroundings.

What I Do

Some photos on this site are the result of many miles of ill-advised and off-trail bushwhacking in treacherous terrain where likely nobody else has stood in decades, if ever. Some photos are from hours long waits in sniper-style hides hoping for just the right moment with a wild subject. Some photos were taken along well trafficked trails and stops along highways during road trips. Still, others are captures of brief moments in time that glinted into my view as light danced across a scene. What each and every photo on this site has in common though, is that they strive to capture the story and mood of the scene in front of me. Every adventure has a story and that story includes all the sensations, all the moods, and all the emotions experienced along the way. My goal is to capture these stories and experiences to the best of my ability. I want my photos to spark the same emotions I experienced while standing in the moment they were captured. I can only hope I occasionally achieve a semblance of this in my work. I’ll let you be the judge.

My Mission

My work is a celebration of the beauty, and my love, of nature. There are some photos in my collection that are dear to me and I will selfishly keep them to myself as a reminder that this celebration of experiences and the beauty around me is my motivation and not a drive to appease others. For all the photos I do share, I dearly hope you can feel just a bit of the passion that went into them and perhaps share in the experience as well.
